We can always count on MARANT to work with us to find solutions that meet our design ambitions, as well as the owner’s needs and budget.

Jason Smirnis Partner, Building Arts Architects

Although the work of contractors and architects is usually based on constructing environments for  others, MARANT had the unique opportunity to design and build their own work environment in a converted industrial sawmill. The timber and brick building, located in Leaside, was originally built as a sawmill, but it was more recently used as a commercial chemical production/warehouse company. The existing building interior was gutted, including all HVAC and electrical and dramatically reworked in preparation for its new life as an office and warehouse facility. An internal staircase was also constructed.

Early design discussions confirmed the space would need to maintain some of its industrial heritage, exhibit the high level of craftsmanship that MARANT is known to deliver and, finally, to engage and inspire clients, staff and colleagues who would be using the space on a daily basis.  Concrete, steel, timber and terra cotta (conventional “raw” construction materials that are typically concealed) were brought forward as “finish” materials within MARANT’s new office facility.
