A New Chapter in Healthcare Education: MARANT Delivers Phase 1 of TMU’s School of Medicine

TORONTO, ON – September 10, 2025 – MARANT Construction is proud to announce that Phase 1 is complete for the Toronto Metropolitan University’s new School of Medicine in Brampton, marking the Greater Toronto Area’s first medical school opening since 1843.

With the help of our partners, especially our prime consultant Diamond Schmitt, MARANT successfully coordinated the construction of the necessary infrastructure to support the learning journey of the school’s future medical professionals.

Formerly recognized as the Bramalea Civic Centre, the suburban four-storey concrete and steel building underwent extensive renovations to prepare and welcome the inaugural cohort of Doctor of Medicine (MD) students in September 2025.

The newly renovated medical learning facility is now equipped with labs for simulation-based training, active learning classrooms, laboratories such as an anatomy lab, and adaptable work areas that accommodate various teaching methods and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Further, there is a dedicated space for academic research, administrative offices for faculty and staff, and, most importantly, a primary care clinic on the ground floor that will enhance healthcare services in the surrounding Peel Region communities.

MARANT Construction is extremely proud of the hard work demonstrated by both our site and project delivery services teams. Their achievements contribute to Ontario’s plan to safeguard the province’s healthcare system. MARANT eagerly anticipates the opportunities that the Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Medicine will provide for future medical students and the positive impact it will have on our community.

Through their education at the new School of Medicine, TMU MD students will be able to provide more connected and convenient care to those in need, receiving extensive training on becoming an integral part of the healthcare system.  This milestone reflects MARANT’s commitment to delivering spaces that serve both education and community needs. The new facility will foster collaboration, innovation, and care, supporting students, faculty, and the Peel Region for years to come.
