Empowering the Next Generation: Introducing the 2025 MARANT Construction Award Recipient
Toronto, ON – April 25, 2025 – MARANT Construction is proud to announce and introduce Jaliyah Nelson as the recipient of the 2025 MARANT Construction Limited Award. A first-year student in the Architectural Science program at Toronto Metropolitan University, Jaliyah was recognized for her strong commitment to equity, community engagement, and inclusive design. She is the third annual recipient of this award.
From the start of her academic journey, Jaliyah has demonstrated a clear vision for how architecture can be used for social change. She intends to apply her skills to drive meaningful impact in underserved communities.
“I believe that architecture has the ability to transform lives,” Jaliyah shared. “My goal is to create spaces that empower underserved communities, particularly Black and Indigenous populations.”
Beyond her design ambitions, Jaliyah is passionate about collaboration and amplifying underrepresented voices in the architectural process. She hopes to one day establish her own architectural firm.
The MARANT Construction Limited Award was established in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University. The scholarship supports first-year students from equity-deserving groups who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to advancing inclusion in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
MARANT congratulates Jaliyah on this well-deserved recognition. Her purpose-driven mindset and leadership potential reflect the values this award was created to celebrate, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact she will make in the field.
