MARANT Construction Selected as Construction Manager for TMU School of Medicine
TORONTO, ON – June 26, 2024 – Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has selected MARANT Construction as the construction manager for their new School of Medicine in Brampton, Ontario. This project will transform the former Bramalea Civic Centre into a state-of-the-art medical school, set to welcome its first cohort of medical students and residents in September 2025.
“We are honoured to partner with Toronto Metropolitan University on this significant project,” said Jad Younis, Vice President Business Development & Pre-Construction at MARANT Construction. “Our team is committed to delivering a facility that will support the future of medical education and healthcare services in Brampton.”
Originally built in the 1970s, the suburban four-storey concrete and steel building will be renovated to include modern classrooms, study spaces, teaching labs, research facilities, administrative offices, and a primary care clinic. This integrated health clinic will provide primary care services to the community and serve as an academic teaching site.
The 147,000 square foot facility aims to achieve LEED certification, by focusing on carbon reduction and sustainability, aligning with TMU’s long-term emissions and sustainability goals. The building will incorporate innovative design elements that integrate on-site renewable energy sources, promoting environmental stewardship.
In collaboration with Diamond Schmitt Architects as the primary design consultant and Two Row Architects overseeing the implementation of Indigenous design elements, the project will embed equity, diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation into every aspect of the design process. These core values will be integrated throughout the building’s programming and landscape development.
This project is a historic milestone as the first new medical school to be built in Ontario in over 30 years. We are privileged to be part of this exciting endeavour, which holds immense importance for TMU, the city of Brampton, our province, and our country.
MARANT is dedicated to leveraging our construction expertise to ensure the success of this transformative project. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting venture for Toronto Metropolitan University.
