MARANT’s Ongoing Support of Indigenous Focused Initiatives at the ROM to Support Truth, Resilience, and Reconciliation

TORONTO, ON – September 30, 2025 – Today, MARANT Construction recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, otherwise known as Orange Shirt Day. It is not only today that we acknowledge the atrocities faced by the Indigenous Peoples in Canada, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis, not so long ago, leaving a deep intergenerational wound on each of their communities.

We are committed to honouring the resilience, dignity, and strength of the survivors, relatives of victims, and communities who continue to endure the lasting effects these institutions and other colonialist activities have had, and will have, for generations.

To actively do our part in supporting each of these communities year-round, MARANT Construction has been funding the Royal Ontario Museum’s Repatriation Technician since 2020.

The Repatriation Technician aids in returning sacred objects, Indigenous Ancestors, and associated objects of cultural patrimony to their rightful communities. In 2024, the technician facilitated two repatriations of Ancestors and funerary belongings. These returns represent a substantial portion of the Ancestors that had previously been in ROM’s care, marking a milestone in the ROM’s repatriation journey.

This role is crucial in helping to restore Indigenous sovereignty, culture, and self-identity that residential schools and historical colonial practices suppressed by paving the way for the respectful return of belongings to their rightful Indigenous Nations and uncovering the rich history of Indigenous communities to share with the public.

MARANT Construction is truly honoured to play a role in supporting the ROM and the Repatriation Technicians efforts knowing it is an essential step in addressing the truths of the past and reconciling our relationship with the Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada.
