Providing Construction Management and General Contracting Services, MARANT was retained to renovate the entire building to meet Roche’s new workplace and environmental standards. Simultaneously the building owner (GWL) underwent building upgrades to a LEED EB level.
Working from a completely demolished interior, the sustainable workplace improvements included: a new full service 20,000 sf cafeteria, fitness centre complete with showers and lockers, a garden-level multi-purpose area, and three new atrium staircases. The building environmental standards called for a new electrical and HVAC system with rooftop ammonia chillers, which required substantial structural reinforcing. A new front entry and turnstile security feature was installed, as well as washrooms, parking, patio, and other landscaping features.
