Case Study EssenceMediacom (Formerly Mediacom)

MARANT was retained by EssenceMediacom to provide Construction Management and general contracting services to build out the client’s new office facility located at 1 Dundas Street West on the 27th to 29th floors. The schedule was very aggressive, starting construction in December, with the client moving in on March of the following year.

The interior space was designed and built to mimic a “brick-and-beam” building which was accomplished by creating a two-storey mezzanine area with an internal connecting staircase. This feature space was created as the company’s central employee hub, which included a lunch room, lounge and a conference facility. The ceilings in this area were left open, but painted to match the colour scheme. Large wood beams were installed to replicate the look of an older building.

The construction required that the entire base building ceiling system be replaced with an upgraded system with increased acoustics. All the office fronts were created using millwork that acted as a wall, and sliding doors were installed to provide privacy for each office. A new security system was designed and installed, as well as a fully equipped LAN room with emergency power provision was built, and comprehensive audio-visual installations were built into the meeting rooms.
